How are written thoughts different when built in a conversation with AI?
In his essay, Dan1 writes about ways to leverage the conversational aspect of AI in writing. He breaks down an exquisite system. “Get your thoughts down when you want to. Organize your thoughts before you begin a piece. Capture a voice when you want the flavor of a particular writer. Summarize complex ideas when you’re trying to explain. Help you when you get stuck. Evaluate your writing when you need a fresh brain”. It appears to be a useful heuristic, but each of these points remains quite ambiguous.
Is there a limit to how process-driven ideas get generated?
A post on resources and AGI, as referenced in Tim Dillon2, highlights the hardware and economic limitations of technology scale. There undoubtedly are scaling limits, whether in silicon, mathematical computation, or thermodynamics.
Is the difference between our lived experience as a generally intelligent being and one that isn’t a mere matter of hardware or wetware?
Large Language Models allow us users to type anything and seemingly can do everything. But with it come some interesting questions about usability and choice. We are running a 90-minute container to provoke and explore the living idea of interoperability together.
We have even more data to show that AI is reshaping markets.3 I personally believe it’s a bubble, but one that, when it bursts, will only Balkanize the economic monopoly of AI companies.
“I have never been more certain that if AI development stopped today, we would still have massive & rolling disruption across society & the economy for the next ten years as people figured out how to harness what models can already do. And the end of AI progress seems unlikely.” - Ethan Mollick
Regardless of its limitations in terms of ideas or scale, the markets are still heavily affected by this new technology. Let’s hope we don’t still fall prey to delegating away agency through the marketing ploy of generalized, anthropomorphized agents. Alignment might be a problem we may never solve.4
